Once you book a session with Raining Light Photography, you’ll receive information that explains session policies, what to expect at a session, a clothing guide, and much more all in depth. This page is designed to give answers to some of the more frequently asked questions.

What is a session like with Raining Light?

Very laid back and casual. I like to talk, laugh, connect, and have fun with my clients as well as take photos of them. I like to make jokes, poke fun at myself, giggle, and just have a good time. What does this mean for my clients? That their session will be fun. There will be no stiff poses. I like to inspire real smile, real moments, and true ease for those in front of the camera. I prefer, especially with young children, to just allow people to naturally pose themselves with just a bit of guidance from me to capture them at their best.

When is the best time to schedule a session?

It’s all about the light! If it is an outdoor session, I typically will only schedule sessions in the two hours before sunset. This gives us ample time to work when the light is the best. If the session is in the winter months, this will be in the late afternoon, around 3-5. When the light lasts longer during the summer, this might be between 7-9. It all varies depending on the time of the year and the setting sun. Of course, this doesn’t really apply to indoor sessions because windows can help filter any kind of light and I can use my flashes to help if needed.

What days work the best for you?

As long as I’m available, I’m not picky about the days of the week. Saturdays will be the hardest days available during wedding season, so Sundays tend to be a popular weekend day.

I love your work! How do I book?

Wonderful! For portrait sessions, the session fee is due at the time of booking to reserve your date. If for some reason you can not make it to your session, as long as I am given notification within 48 hours, rescheduling can be made with the same session fee.

Where is your studio?

I don’t have one! I would certainly love to have one some day in the future, but for right now I thrive on being an on-location photographer. This can be in your home, a natural setting, or something more urban. I adore working with natural light, but am also comfortable creating my own light with strobes both on and off camera.

Can you be reached by phone?

I can certainly be made available to have phone conversations and appointments can be made if desired. My preferred method of communication is through email simply because my job allows me to stay at home with my children during the day. This means I’m splitting up my time between photography work and play time with the kiddos. Sometimes it is simply easier to answer questions with a quick email rather than have clients distracted by the tiny, sweet voices of my children. 479.544.0443

How far will you go?

I serve Northwest Arkansas and happily travel to Bella Vista, Rogers, Bentonville, Springdale and Fayetteville. For areas outside of these cities, a travel fee may apply. Please contact me for more specific information.

Tell me about newborns.

Newborns are best photographed ten days old or younger. They are sleepy, curly, and oh so cute at this stage. I prefer to photograph babies with bare skin as I feel this captures the precious newborn stage the best. No worries, no ‘parts’ will show!

What about clothes?

This is such a hard question. Style is such a personal thing. While I certainly want everyone looking their best, I understand that everyone has a different understanding of comfort and taste. I am available to discuss what to wear more in depth at any time through email and am currently working on a handy ‘what to wear’ guide to help people decide what is best for their session.

How many people can I bring to a session?

I like to limit the amount of extra people to two during a session. For example, if the Smiths scheduled a session just to photograph only the children in their family, both Mom and Dad would be welcome to be present during the session but no extra guests. This is because I have found that it is a great distraction to the subject to have many other people present during a session. This can result in unsatisfactory images.

Can I bring my own camera?

For the same reason as limiting extra guest, I ask that no outside cameras, still or video, are to be brought to a session. It can be a distraction and it can result in the subjects all looking in many directions.
