Once upon a time, a mommy and her three daughters stumbled upon a blog post by one of the mommy’s friends. It captured a little boy’s birthday, innocence and youth, all in beautiful photos. The daughters were intrigued and curious about the tent fort. Tickled by their enthusiasm, the mommy told them that they could go out and build a fort of their own. And as tradition for many little girls, a small tea part of sorts was planned. Costumes, of course, added to the fun. This is how Pirate Pony and The Princess P were born. Pirate Pony, being a pirate, loved skulls, but also wanted to show off her love of things girlie and sweet with rainbows and pettiskirts. The Princess P, who was sort of a grump that day, wanted a Snow White dress with an apron. The Itty Baby, having no words yet to express her own opinion, was dressed in a handmade red and white dress that made her mother giggle in delight. And since Itty Baby is an avid army crawler, she was tucked safely in an adorable dolly bassinet for maximum photo taking opportunities.

A grand feast was prepared. Fish heads, cupcakes, a sewing tomato, potato chips, and what we are fairly sure is a head of lettuce sat prettily upon the table. The table, as was the fort, was made from milk crates and blankets. Blankets made by the hands of grandmothers, which make them extra special! (The mother actually has no idea why her family possesses so many milk crates, but she is happy when they come in handy!)

Dollies, ponies, and bears were invited to the tea party. A grand time by all. Well, mostly all. The Princess P, who was a bit of a grump, remember, decided that this tea party was for the birds. She found a better use for her fork other than pretend eating plastic grapes. As the mother happily snapped photos while having tea with Pirate Pony, The Princess P decided she would rather dig a hole in the yard. And the Pirate Pony decided to join her. And then the Itty Baby slipped to the bottom of her bassinet and tried to eat grass. This is when the mother decided it was time to go back inside for a real snack.

2010. It is finally here. It brings soo many changes in my life, both personally and with Raining Light Photography. This will be the year my daughter starts kindergarten. Can she really already be at that point? My son will turn 12!! I can vividly remember twelve being a turning point in my life in so many ways and so I look to this milestone of his with bittersweet anticipations. Our sweet Paeton will turn three! She is so independent and headstrong now. I can only imagine what she’ll bring to my plate this year. Even though tiny Aryah is but seven weeks old at the moment, I know that soon I will planning to prepare for the first birthday of my last child. I’m so glad I have many months before that one! I’ll hit the big three oh this year. As of right now, I’m okay with that. My life is pretty sweet. You may, however, be hearing screams from me around May because I’m not sure how calm I’ll be about it as the date gets closer. Seriously, though, I think I’ll be fine with thirty. It’ll be thirty-five that will most likely be scary for me.

Be on the look out for some changes for Raining Light, too. I’m restructuring my pricing, completely revamping the boudoir line-up (and will be moving that aspect of the business to its very own site in the near future!), and implementing some new ideas into the wedding side of things as well. There will be some new products, new packages with emphasis on digital, and a more streamlined process all the way around. 2009 was a great learning year and I hope that I can really make 2010 better! I also hope to blog at least once a week and show more sides of Cherron as a person. I realized this year that some of the greatest inspirational blogs from my favorite photographers, the ones that I can’t wait to check in the mornings to see who posted something new, were the ones that showed glimpses of their personal lives as well as the photography side. I’ve decided that I need to do that as well. I want my clients to feel like they know me well before the first click of the shutter during a session. There is no reason why I can’t make my business the type that I WANT to run and not the type that I think people feel it should be.

So, yes, 2009 was great even though it was a slow year because of my pregnancy. I learned a lot, developed a more solid idea of where I want to be in the future, and grew so much as a photographer and as a person. I’m so ready for 2010 to be even better! I’d like to thank all of my clients in 2009 for such a fantastic year. You were all an absolute pleasure to work with!!

I hope that 2010 is a beautiful and healthy year for all of you as well!

xoxo

Hello! I’ve been rather busy the last few weeks with last of the year proofing and the holiday season. We had a wonderful Christmas! I was actually really laid back about taking photos this year so I’m not sure if I can find anything to post, but I’ll try and dig something up to show. I have a friend who had beautiful photos of his girls opening up their gifts. I was wondering how he got such gorgeous photos and not just a blur of wrapping paper and plastic when he let me in on a little secret: they took turns. It allowed him to really take a great photo of each girl opening each of her gifts, which I thought was a fantastic idea. I’m copying him next year! This year was a whirlwind of all three kiddos opening up their gifts and I’m actually not sure if I even got one good one. I haven’t even uploaded the card from Christmas because I’ve been taking a bit of a photographic break for the holidays. It’s been nice just relaxing with my family. I’m looking forward to starting the new year, both in my family life and my business.

That brings me to a few things I’d like to mention! The new year is bringing forth a few changes for Raining Light Photography. I have a contest or two up my sleeves and will announced them in the coming weeks. I’m going to be redesigning the blog a little bit as well. I generally like the look of it, but there will be some minor tweaks. Or who knows, I might go completely crazy and totally change it!

Now, the most important thing is that 2009 will bring several changes to the pricing structure on both the wedding and lifestyle sides of my photography. I am very excited about it. I really think it will make things less confusing for everyone. I’m all about simplicity! So, keep an eye out in the next couple of weeks for all the little differences going on with Raining Light Photography.

2009 is going to be a fantastic year!!!

Everyone have a great night tonight, be safe, and have fun.
