Her Little World | Northwest Arkansas Lifestyle Photographer

Posted on January 26, 2012

Toddlerhood.
It’s such a magical, special time, don’t you think?
They are exploring and growing and learning.
Becoming little people.

It’s a special time for Mommies, too.
We have to learn that our babies are quickly becoming something other than our babies.
That can be so hard to do.

I spend a lot of time capturing these little moments in the lives of my own children.
I often find that
they are more precious to me
than the ‘proper’ photo shoots that I set up for them.

I like the photos with the toys.
Messy hair.
Mismatched jammies.
I try to include myself in these photos as much as I can.
I always seem to get the urge to whip out the tripod and remote
on days when I’m still in my jammies, too, with hair just as unkempt.
And I still love the images.
;)

I wanted to capture the little moments that I love so much for another mommy.
Just her and her little person
doing what they do during the day.
Something for her to look back on in a few years, smile, maybe cry,
but ultimately be oh so happy that she can hold something in her hands
that freeze the simplicity of those days
when her baby was still her baby.

So, I put out my first casting call.

This is what happened:

Happy Belated Birthday, Love | Northwest Arkansas Children’s Photographer

Dearest Tatum,

My oldest daughter, my first girl, my beautiful little lady.
I love you.

I love your blossoming creative side.
You can spend hours with your new journal and colored pencils.
Drawing.  Writing.
You remind me of when I was a little girl.

I love your delight in all things magical.
You still believe in magic and faeries and all those things I love.
Believe as long as you want.
(I still do.)

You are growing up so fast and have opinions on fashion and hair.
When did that happen?
Can I stop it? :)

I love your smile and your laugh.
I love the way your eyes light up when something clicks or you get an idea.
You. Are. So. Smart.

I’m sorry your birthday letter was so late.
That’s what I get for having you just before Christmas.  :)

Thank you for being mine.

I love you.

Mommy

You are FOUR!! | Northwest Arkansas Photographer

Dearest Paeton,

You. Crack. Me. Up.

Your imagination, your cute little voice, the stories you tell.
All of it makes me giggle
and makes me oh so happy
that you are mine.

You are my snuggle bug.
More than the other three,
you are more than content to
curl up in my lap,
sit at my side,
get in my way while doing chores.

Your big, huge smile
lights up my life.
It’s contagious.

I love the way you are a little shy at first in new situations.
I love the way you twist your mouth into funny, awkward shapes
when you are embarrassed or unsure of how to act.

Your full on laugh and big accompanying smile
is one of the best things in the world.
I dare anyone not to grin
when you do it.

You are so kind and sweet.
It makes my heart happy.

You make my heart happy.
Every. Single. Day.

Happy Birthday, Paeton-Head.

Love,
Mommy

She was absolutely thrilled by this crystal ball in the garden.
I had to keep her away from stepping into the actual garden many times.
She thought it was magical.

I think she is.

Just the Three | Northwest Arkansas Family Photographer

Posted on October 4, 2011

Oh, another blog post.  I know.  I’m on such a roll.  ;)

Or catching up.

Whatever.

This is another family that I have had the pleasure to have in front of my camera numerous times.
Actually, this is only three members of the family.
The older two boys were visiting grandparents this day, so mom and dad decided to just have a session with the youngest.

This makes me happy because we get to have fun with the entire family soon!  :)

It’s all about me | Northwest Arkansas Photographer

Or at least my family.  :)

It’s been a long time since I’ve done a personal post,

and since last night I found three folders full of personal images that I’ve

NEVER EVEN TOUCHED,

I thought it was well past time!

Well, I was going to start out with the oldest, but I realized that so many of these summer photos featured him without a shirt. He is very much against online shirtless photos, so here are two that I don’t think I’ve ever shared. :)

Rocking out with John’s guitar.

And playing at a local playground.

And a few from this summer.

Turtle. Turtle.

That poor turtle. He wanted to keep it as a pet, but forgot to take it back home with him.
I found it roaming the kitchen and so I let it go.

This one cracks me up. He knew the shirt was on inside out and backwards, but he didn’t care.

Our little Kindergarten graduate.

web-20
We had a bit of a sad time at the end of the school year when she realized she wouldn’t have the same teacher. :(
She just started 1st grade this past week and is in love with school all over again.

She looks completely like her dad in this one.

web-23

The dress she is wearing is an adult dress, one I’ve kept over the years even though I can’t wear it anymore. I had actually pulled it out to donate when she spotted it and now it is in their dress up trunk. :)
web-24

Days before she lost her top tooth.

grammyedits-13

Just a wee bit excited about the lost tooth.

I’m a little obsessed with her curls. She’s the only one that has my curls (so far, at least, the verdict is still sort of out on the baby) and I just love them.

Hammy ham ham.

This is her standard pose.

And the baby. Sweet, sweet girl who is a tiny little ball of energy right now, so I’m just happy with anything I get from her!!

This is what she thinks of my camera these days. :)

And messes are her thing.

So, there you have it.

Our summer in a nutshell.

We kinda rock.

Someone is thirteen.

That can’t be possible.

But it is.

I. Am. The. Mother. Of. A. Teenager.

Yikes!!

:)

He brings me such joy and laughter.

Who else would make funny faces in the mirror with me as we’re

comparing our eerily alike features?

And then laugh at me as I attempt

to dance to a country rap?

This guy!

And I love him oh so much for it. ?

(yes, a country rap.  My husband’s newest musical find.)

My oldest daughter is in Kindergarten this year.  This means class parties with fun games, goodies, treats, and laughs.

I decided to make a little Valentine’s bunting and use it in the girls’ Valentine’s Day photos.  They had a good time helping me and they also did a great job posing for the photos.  Sometimes that is a small miracle. ;)

Full Circle | Northwest Arkansas Baby Photographer

Yesterday was bittersweet.  It marked a year since my sweet little Aryah came into our lives a little bit earlier than expected.  How can a year have already flown by?  It really doesn’t seem possible that the tiny little baby that we brought home weighing only 4lbs 5ozs is now a one year old.  That she now cruises the furniture, crawls like greased lightening, or waves bye bye.  She is still not walking, and she is still small for her age, but she is such a bright part of our family.

Here she is for her first official photo session with daddy:

Untitled-1

And here are a few from yesterday’s session with her first cupcake of her very own.

She didn’t really know what to think of the icing
aryahcakesmash-16web

But she liked the candle.

Mmmm, maybe icing is okay after all.

Oh, sweet, sweet little baby. You are so precious to me!

Fall and Halloween 2010 | Northwest Arkansas Lifestyle Photography

Posted on November 1, 2010

Fall is so beautiful. I adore the changing leaves, the cooler ( but not yet too cold!!) weather, and the beginning of the holiday season. I love all of the oranges and reds and golds everywhere. I love the way the sun filters through leaves. I even love the leaves all crunchy under my feet as I walk across my lawn. In the race for being the best season, fall and spring are completely tied in my heart. I live for them both.

Of course, what is fall without a trip to a pumpkin patch? I actually had grand plans this year. We gathered up a bunch of friends, went to a local corn maze, and I was going to take wonderful photos of us all having fun. Yeah, I sort of forgot my camera that day. :) We did have fun, but I was obviously disappointed that I didn’t get any photos like I wanted. To sort of ease my aching heart, my family and I planned a small visit to a local church with an adorable little pumpkin market. There were no fancy clothes, nothing really planned, just me snapping happily away as the girls picked out some pumpkins. John even took the camera from me in a rare moment of playing family photographer. I was delighted because I’m not often in the family snapshots since I’m always behind the camera. Yay, John!

fall2010v2

And we can’t forget one of my favorite holidays of all, Halloween!! I looooove Halloween. I was able to go to an adult costume party for the first time in years and had so much fun. Not only was it a great time with friends, but I had a blast working on my costume. The actual day of Halloween was interesting because it was the holiday that almost wasn’t. My trusty sidekick, aka My Sister, and I tried to take out six of our seven kids (a certain older child o’ mine decided he wasn’t in to Trick or Treating this year. :( ) out for a round or two around the neighborhood. Oh, yes, we tried for an uneventful preparation but that wasn’t going to happen. We had meltdown after meltdowns. Wings were crooked, tiaras were tight, gloves were lost, shoes were also lost, and babies were clingy. There were accidents involving thorns, scary zombies, and two very stressed out mothers. We made it work like good mommies, though, and ended up having a great time.

Here is the one ‘good’ shot we got of the kiddos before we left. We were losing light, they were wiggly, there were some tears, and I decided to go for memory keeping rather than perfection. Sometimes that is the best way to go. Also, here is a snappie of my own Halloween costume. I was a masquerade Queen of Hearts.

fall2010v3

I hope everyone had a fabulous Halloween and are enjoying this great fall weather.
