Say what? | Northwest Arkansas Children Photographer

Someone is thirteen.
That can’t be possible.
But it is.
I. Am. The. Mother. Of. A. Teenager.
Yikes!!
He brings me such joy and laughter.
Who else would make funny faces in the mirror with me as we’re
comparing our eerily alike features?
And then laugh at me as I attempt
to dance to a country rap?
This guy!
And I love him oh so much for it. ?
(yes, a country rap. My husband’s newest musical find.)

Be Mine | Northwest Arkansas Children Photographer

My oldest daughter is in Kindergarten this year. This means class parties with fun games, goodies, treats, and laughs.
I decided to make a little Valentine’s bunting and use it in the girls’ Valentine’s Day photos. They had a good time helping me and they also did a great job posing for the photos. Sometimes that is a small miracle.

For the Kids! | Northwest Arkansas Children Photographer
Posted on December 31, 2010
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! I’m happy because my oldest daughter is in Kindergarten and is actually excited about Valentine’s Day. Blaze, being oh so close to a teenager, sort of lost that years ago. Tatum can’t wait to pass out Valentine’s Day cards to all of her school buddies. I will be revealing the special Valentine’s Day shoot with my girls at a later time, but since I was playing around with the details today, I thought I would go ahead and announce this year’s Valentine’s Day special! I already have announced it for the ladies and now it is time for the kiddos! I’m doing something a little different this year. While I will be holding an actual studio day for the minis (date and details still being ironed out), I’m also going to allow this special to be extended as a portrait party, too!
Not familiar with my portrait parties? They are so much fun and a great way to get some updated photos of your children without having a full session. If you are interested in hosting one and would like more information, simply get in contact with me and I would love to discuss it with you!
A custom Valentine’s Day card of your child to pass out? Too cute!!

..photos from before Halloween!
I was peaking around some cards today and found one that contained images of my two oldest daughters playing in Halloween costumes. I had sort of forgotten about this little session, so it was a fun surprise. I love when something like that happens. It was like a little Christmas before Christmas!
And if you are wondering what in the world is on Tatum’s face, this might shed some light on things.
Yes, that is what she looked like just a few hours before this little camera fun. She was turning herself into a princess. (See the crown?)
(I have no idea what was all over Paeton’s face. )
Christmas is so close! I’m completely excited about it because I think I’ve pulled off a rather fantastic surprise for my husband.
I can’t wait for him to find out about it.

Baby Blue Eyes | Northwest Arkansas Lifestyle Photographer

Someone is really cute. Someone has the blue, blue eyes of her sister and father. Someone likes to clap, play ‘Big Girl’ (throwing her hands up in the air) and playing ball. Someone likes blocks, eating, singing to us in her sweet little voice, and crawling all over the place. Someone is teething. Someone let me cuddle her for a half an hour in the middle of the night because no other soothing would do. It was really sweet.
Someone turns a year old oh so soon.

Great Day for a Sail | Northwest Arkansas Family Photographer
Posted on September 22, 2010
Well, actually, it wasn’t.
There was no wind. But it was a great day to take family photos on a sail boat!
It is that time of year when I get to take photos of one of the cutest and bravest little men on the planet.
He has grown so much in the last year. And he is just so full of giggles.
Leighton’s parents wanted to do their session this year on their new sail boat. They’ve been hanging out in it every spare moment that they’ve had this summer so it was only fitting that their portraits were there as well.
Here is a little peek into their session.
They are such a beautiful family!! And the love they have for each other! It pours off in waves. I love it.

Down to Two| Northwest Arkansas Children’s Photographer

School is going well. My bright eyed little girl has bounced into the car with a smile on her face on all but two of the days that she has gone to class. On those two days, she received yellows in her behavior charts. This made her sad.
But she is trying really hard and wants to get to purple.
Since she leaves them to do fun, amusing, glamorous Kindergarten things, Paeton and Aryah are left with me to do fun, giggly, stay-at-home-with-young-children things. It’s different and we miss Tates, but we are adapting.
This is how we like to wake up.

Not a bad way to start the day!
The other day I decided that it was time to do Aryah’s ten month old photos while the weather was so pretty. Now, I saw the opportunity for some beautiful light, nicely asked (yelled) at John to please come help me gather the girls up before we lost it. I stripped the baby as John helped Paeton into one of her favorite dress up outfits. We rushed out in the front yard, threw down a quilt, and placed the baby on it. So, Aryah loves to crawl. She’s been doing it for months now but only recently started sitting. This meant that I knew we would have about 1.2 seconds before she tried to crawl off the quilt and attack some pine needles. I was correct and after several attempts, I got one usable shot. I even tried to put her in a doll bassinet to keep her sitting and not crawling out of the frame. That ended up in hysterical laughter because she decided that particular moment was THE BEST time to pee. Back on the quilt she went.
Good thing she is cute.
Paeton is notorious for wanting to have her photo taken when it isn’t really her turn. Who am I to say no to that adorable face?
And look at this!! Both of them together and looking at the camera.
I’m so lucky.

All Grown Up | Northwest Arkansas Children’s Photographer

Sweet little girl with the infectious laugh and bright imagination, don’t grow so fast, okay? I’ve spent the last five and a half years with you as my shadow. Princess tea parties, playing on the wii, reading books, making up stories, and indulging in your oh so charming and massive imagination. This has made up our little life. You are convinced that you used to be a fairy and lived in “Fairy Tale.” You tell the most amazing stories about what has happened to you in Fairy Tale and like to explain how you came to Earth through cracks in the wall.
You started Kindergarten last week.
Be still my aching heart.

As Summer Comes to an End | Northwest Arkansas Family Photographer

I’ve wanted to work with older girls for a little bit now to sort of experiment with a few ideas that I’ve had floating around in my head. I’ve worked with a lot of babies and younger kids as well as seniors and adults, but really hadn’t work with the ‘tween’ crowd much. What’s a photographer to do? Well, this photographer starts looking at her friends’ kids!
My friend Bonnie married the love of her life last year. If that wasn’t enough, she also became the step-mom to two beautiful girls. She adores them soo much. I decided that instead of just doing photos of the girls, wouldn’t it be really fun to take photos of all of them together? I’m so glad everything fell into place when it did because not only did I have a lot of fun, but just look how gorgeous they all are! I could have taken a million more frames. Annnnd I sorta had a hard time narrowing things down.
Enjoy!!
Hear that? That is a big ol’ happy sigh coming from me. I’m so happy with these.
On another note, I shall be hopping on a plane eaaaarrrlllyyy Friday morning (like five in the morning early. I think I’m crazy) to go to a workshop in North Carolina. The beach, amazing photographers and good times are coming my way. I can’t wait!!! Please note that any emails or phone calls will not be answered until Monday morning. Thanks!!

Once upon a time.. |Northwest Arkansas Lifestyle Photographer
Posted on July 31, 2010
Once upon a time, a mommy and her three daughters stumbled upon a blog post by one of the mommy’s friends. It captured a little boy’s birthday, innocence and youth, all in beautiful photos. The daughters were intrigued and curious about the tent fort. Tickled by their enthusiasm, the mommy told them that they could go out and build a fort of their own. And as tradition for many little girls, a small tea part of sorts was planned. Costumes, of course, added to the fun. This is how Pirate Pony and The Princess P were born. Pirate Pony, being a pirate, loved skulls, but also wanted to show off her love of things girlie and sweet with rainbows and pettiskirts. The Princess P, who was sort of a grump that day, wanted a Snow White dress with an apron. The Itty Baby, having no words yet to express her own opinion, was dressed in a handmade red and white dress that made her mother giggle in delight. And since Itty Baby is an avid army crawler, she was tucked safely in an adorable dolly bassinet for maximum photo taking opportunities.
A grand feast was prepared. Fish heads, cupcakes, a sewing tomato, potato chips, and what we are fairly sure is a head of lettuce sat prettily upon the table. The table, as was the fort, was made from milk crates and blankets. Blankets made by the hands of grandmothers, which make them extra special! (The mother actually has no idea why her family possesses so many milk crates, but she is happy when they come in handy!)
Dollies, ponies, and bears were invited to the tea party. A grand time by all. Well, mostly all. The Princess P, who was a bit of a grump, remember, decided that this tea party was for the birds. She found a better use for her fork other than pretend eating plastic grapes. As the mother happily snapped photos while having tea with Pirate Pony, The Princess P decided she would rather dig a hole in the yard. And the Pirate Pony decided to join her. And then the Itty Baby slipped to the bottom of her bassinet and tried to eat grass. This is when the mother decided it was time to go back inside for a real snack.
