Family Time | Northwest Arkansas Family Photographer
Posted on March 8, 2010
I recently sent out a casting call for families to help me out with some ideas that I had. This lovely family volunteered to let me come into their home one beautiful Saturday and capture a little bit of their family life.
I love games. We don’t have either of these games but I’ve been requested to purchase them after a certain little girl saw these photos. I think that is a good idea.
And then we moved on to a little bed play and story time. I loved it. The boys were so adorable!
And possibly my favorite of the entire day, some Mama love!
Isn’t this just so much fun? I am in love with lifestyle sessions. I love how they tell a story. I love how they pluck out moments of a family’s life and make them stand still to treasure forever. They make me happy and I look forward to doing more.
H family, it was such a pleasure working with you. Thank you so much for allowing me to come play and experiment! I hope you enjoyed your sneak peek.

A Little Walk About | Northwest Arkansas Family Photographer
Posted on February 1, 2010
Once upon a time, this little (maybe not so little. Maybe curvy) lady decided to round up her cozy little family and take a walk.
Our little neck of the woods is in the process of creating wonderful walking trails that span several cities. The trails are all paved, so strollers and bikes are a real treat. And they are full of lovely curves (like me) and nature filled scenery, so it is completely possible to be walking amid a fair number of people and still feel as if you were all by yourself. I rather enjoy it.
Anyway, so we decided to talk a walk. John had been complaining earlier in the month how I never seem to take my camera out with us anymore. And that is true. I don’t do it often enough. Mostly because I’m still looking for The Right Camera Bag and don’t feel like dragging my current one out and about unless necessary. (Actually, I know where I will probably get The Right Camera Bag, but she currently doesn’t do messenger style bags. Get on the ball, Ketti!
I don’t know how much longer I can hold out since her new spring line is just so fabulous.) I thought that a family walk would be a perfect chance to take some snappies of my little brood.
Tatum insisted that we bring her bike. The poor thing is really too small for her and we have not yet got her a big girl bike. I’m waiting for spring since I don’t feel like hanging out in the garage and watching her do circles because that is what we would be doing if we got her a bike right now. Soooo, we said yes, she could bring the bike for what would probably be the last time she rides it before it is passed off to her sister.
John pushed the Paeton-head in her stroller and I had the baby all tucked into a sling.
(Yes, I realize that the tag is in focus and the adorable baby is not. You try to manipulate your hand around a DSLR while holding your arm out far enough to get the said baby in the frame. It wasn’t easy.
)
Why, hello, handsome man, father of (most of) my children.
We stumbled upon some wildlife on our trek. Squirrel, mostly, but there were deer! And deer that were rather used to the humans often found walking through the woods. See?
See the X? That is how close I got to get these.
As you can see, everyone was totally impressed with my wildlife photography exploration.
Ok. Maybe not. But they are so cute.
* You may notice some differences in my editing. I’m using family photos to explore Lightroom. I’m starting to really like it.

Casting Call | Northwest Arkansas Lifestyle Photographer
Posted on January 17, 2010
Today I went to my grandparents’ house and spent the day with them. After a yummy lunch and lots of talking, I set up my lights and camera to take a formal portrait of them as well as with my little family. It made me think of what kind of photographs I really wanted to be taking of them. The interaction between them and my children. The laughter and the smiles that were natural and at ease. My grandparents are not fans of the camera so I’m happy with what I got today, but it made me think of how I would want a family session to be. I found myself wanting to focus a little more on the relationships & connections in a family. To give myself the opportunity to experiment a little and give some new ideas a try, I’m officially announcing a casting call for models! Here’s the scoop:
*These sessions will be geared toward capturing one or two specific ideas so participants would have to be willing to agree to one of a few ideas.
*The session will be free of charge and will take place at the subjects home. Prints & products will be available for purchase at regular prices.
*A model release will be required allowing me to use the images on my website, for marketing, etc.
*Standard Raining Light Photography policies apply.
So what types of models am I looking for?
*A family with 2-3 children that are toddler to preschool ages.
*A family with a single baby three to nine months.
*A family with a single baby two to six weeks.
Please contact me for more information on the specific types of images I’m hoping to capture and if you or someone you know may be interested. A 5×7 will gifted as a thank you.

Good-bye, 2009! Hello, 2010! | Northwest Arkansas Lifestyle Photographer
Posted on January 1, 2010
2010. It is finally here. It brings soo many changes in my life, both personally and with Raining Light Photography. This will be the year my daughter starts kindergarten. Can she really already be at that point? My son will turn 12!! I can vividly remember twelve being a turning point in my life in so many ways and so I look to this milestone of his with bittersweet anticipations. Our sweet Paeton will turn three! She is so independent and headstrong now. I can only imagine what she’ll bring to my plate this year. Even though tiny Aryah is but seven weeks old at the moment, I know that soon I will planning to prepare for the first birthday of my last child. I’m so glad I have many months before that one! I’ll hit the big three oh this year. As of right now, I’m okay with that. My life is pretty sweet. You may, however, be hearing screams from me around May because I’m not sure how calm I’ll be about it as the date gets closer.
Seriously, though, I think I’ll be fine with thirty. It’ll be thirty-five that will most likely be scary for me.
Be on the look out for some changes for Raining Light, too. I’m restructuring my pricing, completely revamping the boudoir line-up (and will be moving that aspect of the business to its very own site in the near future!), and implementing some new ideas into the wedding side of things as well. There will be some new products, new packages with emphasis on digital, and a more streamlined process all the way around. 2009 was a great learning year and I hope that I can really make 2010 better! I also hope to blog at least once a week and show more sides of Cherron as a person. I realized this year that some of the greatest inspirational blogs from my favorite photographers, the ones that I can’t wait to check in the mornings to see who posted something new, were the ones that showed glimpses of their personal lives as well as the photography side. I’ve decided that I need to do that as well. I want my clients to feel like they know me well before the first click of the shutter during a session. There is no reason why I can’t make my business the type that I WANT to run and not the type that I think people feel it should be.
So, yes, 2009 was great even though it was a slow year because of my pregnancy. I learned a lot, developed a more solid idea of where I want to be in the future, and grew so much as a photographer and as a person. I’m so ready for 2010 to be even better! I’d like to thank all of my clients in 2009 for such a fantastic year. You were all an absolute pleasure to work with!!
I hope that 2010 is a beautiful and healthy year for all of you as well!
xoxo
Cherron

Sweet baby girl | Northwest Arkansas Newborn Photographer
Posted on December 23, 2009
Oh, how I love this family! I’ve had the pleasure of taking their engagement photos as well as their wedding. Now I got to take photos of their sweet baby girl. I’m having internet problems again at my house so this is going to be a short entry since I’m at a local hotspot. I promised I’d get the sneak peek up before Christmas.
I’ll edit it once I get the internet back at my own home. Until then, just enjoy the sweetness of this beautiful family!
Look at those eyes! And her lashes were probably the longest I’ve ever seen. I have to admit I’m a little jealous of them with my own short, blonde lashes.
I hope to have my internet issues resolved, a sneak peek of a lovely wedding, and a few fun photos from my girls’ birthday party up on the blog soon. Happy Holidays to all!!

Three’s a Family | Northwest Arkansas Family Photographer
Posted on October 13, 2009
My friend and local photographer, Melissa, decided that we were going to exchange family portraits this year. I was flip-flopping around trying to decide if I should do a session before the baby and show off the belly or after the baby. Well, our schedules were so hard to mesh together that reality decided for me- there is no way I’m getting in front of the camera this swollen. Sure, if it was just baby weight, I’d get over it and take one for the team and take some photos, but this isn’t baby weight. It is waking up in the morning and not being able to see because your eyes are so puffy type swelling. No worries, the doctor is making sure that everything is okay. Believe me, I’ve been down the preeclampsia road once before and would not like to return.
So, anyway, Melissa and I decided to postpone my family’s session until the Spring while going ahead and getting some fun fall photos of her and her boys. Despite neither of the guys feeling in tip-top shape (we all know how men tend to become babies when they are sick
), I think we got some great photos! Yay!
Here are just a few that I’ve snagged for the sneak peek.
My fave so far.
Since they hadn’t had couple photos taken since they were married, we spent a little time focusing on on just the two of them. Awwww.
I can’t wait for my session come spring! It’ll be so fun.

Christmas Mini-Sessions! | Northwest Arkansas Photographer
Posted on October 8, 2009
Wait. It isn’t even Halloween yet and I’m already talking about Christmas cards? That’s right! My maternity leave begins at the end of this month so I wanted to opportunity to offer mini-sessions for those that are asking for Christmas cards. There are two collections to choose from this year. Each will include a twenty minute session, 8-10 proofs to choose from, and one digital file, but one will include a 5×7 digital photo card for you to print off where you wish while the other will include a set of 24 5×7 press printed cards.
The sessions will be held outside over the course of two days, the 24th and 25th, with a few sessions held in the morning and a few in the evening. Payment is due upon booking and is non-refundable due to the limited availability of the sessions. If you’d like to see samples of the cards, have any other questions, or would like to book your session, email cherron@raininglightphotos.com!

A Very Special Little Guy | Northwest Arkansas Family Photographer
Posted on September 28, 2009
Meet Leighton, one of the toughest little guys I know. And he is really cute, too!
A little back story. I met Leighton and his mommy, Laine, through my sister. Autumn was the assistant director of the daycare that was the sister company to Laine’s dance studio, Kaleidoscope Dance Academy. Autumn encouraged us to enroll Tatum into the dance studio shortly after we moved back to Arkansas, which we did, and we love. Despite being at the studio every week, it was a couple of months before I finally met Laine face to face. Why? Because not only had Baby Leighton been born early, he also had Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Basically, the left side of his heart did not develop properly. Because of this, his mommy spent most of her time at Children’s Hospital in Little Rock. In fact, Leighton spent the first seven months of his life at Children’s. The little Tin Man, as his family calls him, had a pretty tough road to travel along, but on the 5th of February, Leighton received the best gift- he received a new heart. As you are about to see, he is doing so very well. He is a special little guy and I was very honored to be able to take his portraits.
(I’m trying out a few new ways to display photos on the blog. I think I like how it looks!)
Oh, Leighton, you are just too cute!
Are they not one of the most beautiful families you’ve ever seen? And super nice, too. Some people get all the luck.
I hope you enjoyed your sneak peek, Laine. I’ll have the rest ready for you as soon as possible. See you at dance!
